Website
development consists of two types: static and dynamic construction. Each
type has its own features and advantages.
Static Websites
The term static in reference to a website refers to the type of content
presented. Static means unchanging. Websites delivering static content
are less complex than those designed to deliver dynamic content.
Because
their content is fixed, they have limited interactive capabilities. Of
course you can add more pages to the site to create more content, however
this will become increasingly more unmanageable when the site is to portrait
massive amounts of information necessary to maintain the credibility or
usability of the site. Especially the navigation will come under heavy
strain as content and thus amount of pages grows. Static websites are usually
less expensive up front, but they tend to be more costly in maintenance
over time. Building a static website in preparation for upgrading is a
great way to make the most of your budget and to prepare for growth and
added functionality as your company's online presence and value increases.
Static sites are most suited for law firms, doctors, personal web pages,
and limited product explanations. These sites tend to carry fixed information
that does not change frequently.
Adding purchasing solutions (e-commerce) to a website is one of the simplest
forms of converting a static site to a dynamic site.
Dynamic Websites
The term dynamic in reference to a website refers to the type of content
delivered. Websites delivering dynamic content use programming to connect
with databases or other programs in order to generate the end result. The
advantage of a dynamic website is that the majority of your content information
(product copy, membership lists, orders, etc.) is stored in a database.
This database does not require layout changes of the website template,
and allows you to add content, manipulate information, and easily make
changes when needed via a back-end interface that communicates only with
the database. While dynamic websites are often more expensive up front
to develop, they have very little maintenance expense over time.
Some extremely good examples of dynamic sites are e-Bay, Amazon and the
Google search engine. These sites combine the power of dynamic information
display with “artificial intelligence” guiding the cross-selling process at the same time. To explore Dynamic websites in more depth, click
